The State of Local Retail Marijuana Sales

Let Your Voices be Heard

Illinois gave local towns the authority to determine the number of marijuana businesses they want in their community and to enact reasonable zoning regulations. Check out local press reports on what our local communities are contemplating.

The City of Highland Park chose not to allow the sale of retail marijuana after a thorough discussion at their August 12 Committee of the Whole meeting. They will revisit the topic after one year.

The Village of Deerfield is contemplating a retail marijuana store. Their Plan Commission is holding hearings and will then make a recommendation to the Village Board. Their next hearing is scheduled for 7:30 pm, Thursday, September 12 at Village Hall.

If your community is still deciding, here are ways you can voice your opinion:

  1. Watch your village/city website for meeting updates/agenda action items
  2. Contact your elected officials or the planning & zoning commission in your town
