Retail Marijuana Update

News from Our Local Communities

In a continuing effort to safeguard its youth, the Bannockburn board of trustees voted unanimously to opt out of allowing retail marijuana dispensaries in the Village of Bannockburn. “We didn’t want to send a message to our children that cannabis should be used as a recreational drug,” said Bud Rothing, Bannockburn Village President.

At its October 21 meeting, Deerfield’s board of trustees had the first reading of an ordinance that would allow one retail marijuana store. The second reading and final vote is currently scheduled for the Village Board meeting Monday, November 4. The Village of Deerfield’s information page includes newly developed FAQs on its consideration of retail cannabis zoning and outlines the proposed ordinance.

The Village of Riverwoods Plan Commission will hold a public hearing regarding retail marijuana stores Thursday, November 7 at 7:30 pm. Dr. Susan Sirota, a physician with Pediatric Partners in Highland Park and a Riverwoods resident, has been invited to present.
