Back to School Pressures

Parents on the Front Lines

Teens are particularly vulnerable to social pressures at the start of each school year as a way to fit in, impress friends and express independence. Parents are the best line of defense against these pressures. Through honest and frequent talks, parents can provide the support their kids need to counteract social pressures anytime of the year.

  • Be an active listener.
  • Be honest & avoid making up what you don’t know.
  • Be prepared to talk about the dangers of addiction.
  • Avoid reacting in a way that cuts off discussion.
  • Be clear that underage alcohol & drug use is unacceptable.
