60 Second Conversation Starter
Kids of all ages take risks in order to find out who they are. The new school year is a natural time for parents to encourage healthy risk taking in their kids to help them satisfy their desire for risk taking while helping them avoid negative or harmful behaviors.
By encouraging healthy risk taking, your child can…
- Expand their comfort zone
- Build confidence
- Adapt to new and more complex situations
- Learn to manage setbacks
- Develop new coping skills
If your child is hesitant to take a risk or try something new, talk to them about your own healthy risk taking, your successes and your failures. Model the behavior you want to see in your child, show them examples, and let them lead the way with your support.
