Keeping our Teens Drug and Alcohol Free

Communication is Key

Results of the Illinois Youth Survey show that most Deerfield High School and Highland Park High School students — 70% — choose to be alcohol free.

The key to teens making the right choice is the conversations they have with their parents. But, there’s a gap in perception of conversations:

87% of District 113 parents report talking to their teen about alcohol in the past year.

68% of District 113 students report that their parents talked to them about alcohol in the past year.

Parents can bridge that gap by carving out time for clear and focused conversations about alcohol, so teens understand the content and the purpose of the conversation – and they remember it.

Let’s continue to grow those numbers – keep communications flowing!
